On November 22, 2023, the First "Graduate Academic Forum of the School of Art of Renmin University of China" hosted by the Department of Art Theory and Management was held at Room 530 of the School of Arts. The forum is a fruitful exploration made by the Department of Art Theory and Management to promote the graduate education, scientific research and discipline construction of our school. The "Graduate Academic Forum" is our school's important academic brand activity, which shows the academic ability of graduate students, promotes interdisciplinary dialogue, cultivates young research talents, and incubates high-level research results.
With the theme of "Reading Report of Postgraduate Freshmen", the first Graduate Academic Forum of the School of Art Collected excellent book review reports from 2023 graduate students, which received positive responses from graduate students. The forum has totally received 12 high-quality book reviews from our four departments.
The forum was strongly supported by the leaders of the school and the teachers of various departments.
Vice Dean of the School of Art, Professor Gu Yaqi, Associate Head of the Academic Committee of the School of Art, Professor Fu Yanghua, Head of the Department of Music, Professor Liu Jie, Associate Head of the Department of Design, Associate Professor Yang Peng, Associate Professor of the Department of Design, Jiao Zhentao, Associate Professor Zhu Xingguo of the Department of Painting, and lecturer Chen Linlin of the Department of Art were invited to attend the forum as members of the evaluation panel. The convener of the Graduate Student Forum and the Associate Head of the Art Department, Wang Chuanchuan, served as the academic host.
Professor Gu Yaqi delivered an opening speech at the forum. He highly affirmed the graduate students who actively participated in this academic forum, and pointed out that this is not only the "debut" of the graduate students' study career, but also a new chapter for the School of Arts, which continuously improve its own discipline construction and scientific research level. It is hoped that students will pay attention to the cultivation of theoretical thinking and research ability, and form an organic combination with practical art creation.

The forum lasted for nearly 4 hours in an active and enthusiastic atmosphere, and each student made full preparations, which shows terrific problem solving and critical thinking ability and presents the academic competence of young students of our school. The experts of the evaluation group gave wonderful and in-depth professional comments for each report, and from time to time carried out positive and beneficial academic dialogues with speakers in different professional directions, helping students to widen their academic horizons, and also providing the possibility of enhancing academic exchanges and discipline cooperation between different disciplines and departments.
At the end of the forum, Professor Fu Yanghua delivered a summary of the forum. Fu was deeply pleased with the students' performance in this forum, and pointed out that academic book review is an important exercise for their reading ability, analytical ability and critical thinking ability. As the first academic presentation of freshmen in the School of Arts, this forum is not only ideally built to bring young scholars'academic potentials into full play, but also an important platform for promoting multidisciplinary progress and benign interaction.
