Profs. Xu Weixin and Zheng Xiaohua visited the University of Michigan in the United States from January 26 to February 1 at the request of the university’s Confucius Institute. Xu is the acting dean of the School of Arts and Zheng is the school’s party secretary and assistant dean. They met with their counterparts at the university to discuss ways to improve exchange and collaboration in fine arts courses between the two schools. They also gave two seminars to faculty and students on “A Survey of Modern Chinese Art: Thought and Practice” and “Calligraphy: The Chinese Model of Art”. Prof. Zheng gave a demonstration during the seminar and offered the two characters ji?nqia?o (金桥) which mean “golden bridge” as a gift. It was in praise of University of Michigan’s Confucius Institute which has created such a link by promoting cultural exchange between the two countries.
