Wang Shen who received his doctorate in the United States, is a well-known young oboist. He is currently an oboe teacher and head of the wind department at Art School of Renmin University of China, and a guest performer with the China Philharmonic Orchestra.


In 1992 he was accepted into the Central Conservatory High School division under the tutelage of Professor Zhu Dun. In 1996 he received a full scholarship to attend the Idyllwild Arts academy in Los Angeles. In 2000 he was accepted into the Manhattan School of Music studying with the former principal oboe of the New York Philharmonic Joseph Robinson. In 2003 he received the New York Philharmonic Foundation’s award for outstanding talent. While in the United States, he worked as principal oboe with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, assistant principal oboe with the Florida Symphony, principal oboe with the Miami City Ballet Orchestra, principal oboe with the Hollywood Philharmonic, principal oboe with the Miami Bach Society, principal oboe with the Greater Palm Beach Orchestra, principal oboe with the Boca Symphony Orchestra, guest principal oboe with the Naples Philharmonic and guest artist with the New Century Orchestra. Wang Shen also gave many successful solo recitals in such places as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Tennessee and Indiana. He also was invited several times to perform solo recitals at the International Double Reed Society.


Upon returning back to China in 2010, he performed a solo work on May 12th for Professor Zhu Dun’s memorial concert. This performance at the Central Conservatory received a very warm reception from the audience, which was composed of wind experts from the conservatory and around China in addition to school leaders. In October of the same year Wang Shen was invited to perform at the 70th anniversary concert of the Central Conservatory of Music and received great reviews. During this time he also regularly performed at the National Center of the Performing Arts. On July 3, 2011 Wang Shen performed Benjamin Britten’s Oboe Quartet No. 2 Fantasia at the Beijing Concert Hall for the International Chamber Music Festival to rave reviews. From 2013-2015 he often performed in benefit concerts for children with autism. On June 28th of 2015 he successfully put on a solo recital with his oboe students from R.U.C Art School at the Beijing Center Concert Hall.
