Wang Wenjuan


Professor, and PhD supervisor, Art School of Renmin University of China.

Prof. Wang received her Ph.D. in comparative studies on Chinese and Western art from the Xu Beihong Art Institute, Renmin University of China in 2005. She is a member of China Artists Association (CAA) and the former member of the Fourth Fine Arts Theory Committee of CAA. She is also a member of Chinese Aesthetics Association, Beijing Literature and Art Critics Association and the former deputy director of the First Theory Committee of Beijing Literature and Art Critics Association. From 2013 to 2014, she was a visiting scholar at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. In 2013, she received the title of Annual Top Ten Teaching Pacesetters for her teaching excellence, and in the following year, she was awarded the Excellent Supervisor for Undergraduate Thesis in Beijing.


Her research focuses on the comparative studies on Chinese and Western arts, color studies, and the art of Xu Beihong. Her major publications include:Ink and Color: Aesthetic Exploration of the Colors in Chinese Painting,(Central Editorial and Translation Press,2006), winner of the Second Prize in the Fifth Humanities and Social Science Research Outstanding Research Award in Higher Education, awarded by the Ministry of Education in China; The Modern Interpretationof Xu Beihong’s Spirit(People’s Fine Arts Publisher, 2017),listed as the Top Ten books in Social Science in May 2017 among the National Outstanding Bestseller List; andThe Further Exploration of Xu Beihong's Realism from the Perspective of Modernity(Culture and Art Publisher, 2020).


In addition, she has published more than 100 papers in journals, such asArt Research,Fine Arts,Art Observation,Chinese Calligraphy,Sculpture,The Journal of Humanities,Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art,and among others. Many of her papers have been reprinted in theExcellent Research in Social Scienceby the Renmin University of China, and some of them have been reproduced inXinhua DigestandChina University Academic Abstracts, and others.
